Business Communication for Adults
Business communication, also referred to as "accent modification," is an elective service for adults who desire to alter their speech, dialect, prosody, rate of speech, or fluency. It is important to note that dialectical variations are not related to a communication disorder; however, individuals may seek to modify these variations with help from a speech and language therapist. Speak-a-bu Speech Therapy, Inc. offers the following elective services to adults who would like to modify a U.S.-based regional accent or to those who have learned English as a second language (L2 learners):
- Articulation variations (those tricky 'r,' 'sh,' 'ch,' and 'th' sounds!)
- Vocabulary (multiple meaning words/homonyms, phrasal verbs, etc.)
- Grammar (verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, pronouns, etc.)
- Figurative language (metaphors, similes, idioms, etc.)
- Humor (sarcasm, jokes, puns, etc.)
- Slang
